My 850/S70 finally showed signs of the creaking door from the failed spot welds. I read the solution online about drilling holes and bolting the weld together, and while better than paying a repair bill, this sounds like it could be a hassel reaching around to try to hold the bolt from the backside of the pillar. So here's my question: Do you think I could drill a small pilot hole and then screw in a self-tapping metal screw (not bolt) through the strap plate and the plate behind it? All of this could be done without having to reach behind the pillar. My concern is that the steel is too thick for a self tapping screw. Any comments? Thanks.
