Transmission problem V70-XC70 1999

As the vehicle comes to a stop the transmission fails to disengage untill the car comes to a complete stop. I can feel the engine loading and watch the tach go down to 500 rpm then back up to 900 rpm as it releases. Otherwise operation is normal. Has anyone seen this problem or know the cure?
