I have a 2001 V40 2.0T. My cruise control is behaving strangely. Usually it only works for about 5-10 minutes and dies. It will not work again until the next day or later same day after the car has been parked for some time.
I was driving between two cities during three days. The strange thing is that the cruise control always worked during the whole return trip (2h) but when going the other way the cruise control only worked for 5-10 minutes .The car was always parked about 8 hours before the return trip.
I am trying to figure out what I am doing differently when I am driving back. Only thing I can think of is that I do not use the cruise control until after about 10-15 minutes after departure for the return trip. Going the other way I always started the cruise control in 5 minutes after departure. I always had the cruise control power on.
It seams like the car/cruise control needs to warm up before its initial use. If I try to use it soon after the car has started then the cruise control will stop working after a while. If I wait for 10-15 minutes then the cruise control worked for the whole two hour trip. Ofcourse this could be a coincidens or there could be some other reason. The Volvo dealer has suggested that the fault could be either in the main module or the vacuum pump.
Does this make any sense to anyone or does anyone have any similar experiences?
Also does anyone know who manufactures the volvo cruise control. I have not been able to find anyone dealing with them on the net.
