Bevel Gear Oil Change Interval V70-XC70 1998

My wife's '98XC has 108K with no bevel gear problems so far. I'm interested in knowing if there is a recommended interval for changing the bevel gear oil. I've seen a TSB regarding draining the bevel gear and switching to an "upgraded" oil. I'm not keen on drilling through a bolt hole to drain the oil but that is what the Volvo procedure calls for. I'd appreciate advice from anyone who changed the gear oil or who can provide guidance on the interval for doing so. Thanks.
