'98 XC Wagon vs V70 front drive V70-XC70 1998

Can someone tell me what issues I should look for while shopping for a '98 XC? Also, several people I've spoken with tell me I am a fool to sell my 240 Classic wagon for a XC. What about the front drive V70? I am staying away from '99-00 models as I am not encouraged about the ETM problems. I have heard that the '98 doesn't have the same feature. What are the common problems with the '98 that I might need to know about? Also, does the 3rd seat not have a foot well as in older models like my 240?
