850 ecc code 4-1-8 850

I have a 1994 855 glt w/ ecc. I had no problems with the blower whatsoever, until this morning. After starting the car, no fan in any setting-auto, or manual 1-3, or manual 4. The only ecc code is 4-1-8. Changed the resistor, still throwing a 4-1-8. I have a hard time believing that the blower motor is bad, because it has made not one bad sound. Also have an '86 245, and have had to replace the blower motor, that one acted up for quite some time before it went-so am familiar with the sounds and fits. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Husband is a mechanic, and probably will figure this out eventually, but am hoping to save him some time if possible.
