THe LH front wheel has been overheating. On examination of this area I found the entire seam of the replacement boot (at the wheel end of the shaft) the previous owner installed to be open. None of the 8 to 10 #2 screws he used to close the gap are there. More accurately, 4 badly corroded ones are still there, but the heads pulled through the rubber, rendering them useless.
I haven't observed any noises from the wheel, but it is easy to imagine the interior of the boot has been exposed to moisture and dirt. A brief look inside didn't show any obvious rust or debris.
I don't know if this is related to the overheating (maybe rubber got hot causing heads of screws to pull through?), but I doubt it since the overheating just happened recently and over half the screws are completely missing. I do however have to proceed with some type of fix. Any suggestions? Thanks again. Don 151K 850T
ps The previous owner had told me he thought there was a "small gap" left when he completed the boot job. Maybe he used too small a boot, and this caused it to work itself loose through wear?
