I just finished my driver's side strut replacement and started going on the passenger side. When I did the driver's side, I was able to break the top nut free while the strut was still in the car. I tried to do the same thing with the pass one, but the strut just started spining too, so I was turning the nut and getting nowhere. I dropped the strut out thinking I might have a better shot inside. I can't get the freaking thing to budge. I soaked it in Kroil, and have two pipes, one 24" and one 12" for each of my wrenches, but it's not moving at all. I even tried compressing the springs first to see if it relieved any tension. I have a new strut mount, spring seat, and bump stop, but I need the old cap, fitting, washer, dust boot, and springs, so I need to get the dang thing open.
The spring compressors are rented so I don't want to just order the parts that I can't get off the old one and wait for them to ship into the dealer next week.
Any ideas? I was thinking I might try to drill the nut in a few places so that it cracks and falls off, but what if I damage the threads and then can't get the fitting off...
Thanks!
