adding an amp to an 850 850 1995

i have an 1995 850 sedan base model, which has a model sc810 radio-cassette which i have added a alpine six disc changer. i am happy with the radio and changer but i would like to upgrade the sound. i was thinking all new speakers in stock locations. I noticed that on the back of the sc810 head unit there is an unused plug (port?) that says AMP. Can an aftermarket amp ( or volvo origional?) be added to power new speakers? I am just trying to make it sound better for more driving enjoyment, not to try to impress anyone. Thanks bobd
