Dave--unlucky coincidence. Or it had better be. The hood release is straight mechanical, a cable attached to the three release points and you pull it via the hood release inside. The glove box release can in no way be related to the CD issue. There's numerous posts out there on how to get the glove box lid open, and the best involve taking a single fine-toothed hacksaw blade, putting layers of duct tap on the edges of the viny around the glove box door and dash so you won't scar it up with the blade, pulling the door back with some force (they all say it won't break) and sawing through the little U-shaped latch hook on the top. I'm sure you probably never studied that glove box latch assembly from the point of view of its failing somewhere down the road (who of us ever did?), so before you saw the door latch loose, go look at a friend's glove box release and familiarize yourself with what it looks like before you start cutting with the hacksaw blade.
