Marty said it all in his response. I own an 83 240 wagon, has a quarter of a mill on it, and then bought a 97 GLT wagon, with the light pressure turbo, which I shipped to Norway for the Beloved. Four years later I bought a 97R wagon which has a lot of little niggly problems which Marty has covered, from ABS module to evaporator to God knows what else. But I would suggest a 96-97 and stay away from the earlier models, particularly the 93 which is getting really long in the tooth. The 97 GLT with the light pressure turbo (the 96 GLT and earlier GLT models did not come with the light pressure turbo) is probably your best value for your money. I'm with Marty on style: You can't beat the wagon for looks. Last of its kind. The only later model I would ever consider would be a 98 GLT. After 98 Volvo went to a different electronic throttle module which reliably fails from 80 to 100K and sets you back about one to one and a half K to fix. Can't be repaired. Recalls and lawsuits presently in the mill on that one. 98 is as high as you want to go. After that, jump to the 2001's and higher. Dick
