96 850 Turbo - Good or Bad? 850

Hi,
I'm thinking of going from a 90 240 five speed to a 96 850 turbo wagon. I can't afford a an XC70 yet, but I like the idea of more room and FWD. My mum has a '93 so I've seen the problems that year had. Were there significant improvements by 96, or should I just stay away? Do they last as long (the one I'm eyeing right now already has 160K on it). I've never owned a turbo before. Any advice?
