climate control - or lack there of control S40-V40 2001

For some strange reason everytime I's started the car in recent the AC light comes on and start blowing cold air. the car fan is in the 1 position or higher , but I dont think that warrents the AC comming on if it isnt in the Defog mode ( which it isnt ). Another strange thing is that when put in the hot/warm air selection there is no warm air comming into the cabin. and one more other strange thing . sometimes when the fan is set to "0" meaning no fan .. the fan will come on and start blowing AC for a few minutes. Then turn off.. and the fan blows in these strange gusts .. no real pattern or reason for the strange blowing. anyone have any suggestions ?
