V-70 stalling V70-XC70 2001

Thank you for your reply. I metered out the electrical system @ the alternator & off the battery, got 14.1 to 14.2, with no variation. I am using a hand held Fluke meter, do not have the module to interface with a computer. I have asked them (dealership) to clean, not replace the mass air sensor & the air door. Similar problem with my '91 940 also. A bit of cleaning (which I did) cured it. The primary wiring circuit appears to be intact, as far as I can tell & or meter.

I have pulled the filter between the injectors & the tank & replaced it. Have no way, short of pulling down the tank, to get to the pickup. No dirt is apparent, & on a spray test with injectors, they appear to throw a clean circle, no interruption.

Engine will surge, when you apply brakes, & it drops to below 500 R's it will surge for an instant up to 850 or 900 & drop back to idle at about 6-700R's. If it were dirt in tank it will ocassionally hesitate, surge & then as the dirt gets washed off the pick up will run smooth. Had this in an old Sunbeam Alpine that I raced. We ended up draining the tank, & steam cleaning it & all parts, then reassembling everything. There is no hesitation in the Volvo, she runs sweet, has lots of power, except on ocassion at idle, when it stumbles, it will not recover, just go up a couple hundred R's & then stall out. I am inclined to go with the electronic throttle module. I have (currently) no way to test this, but do have a buddy who may be able to check it with his gear. We shall see. I have given OK to replace the module, & clean the mass air unit. I have also filed a complaint with Volvo USA, and with NTHSA, as this is a drivability fault I believe. Stalling dead in traffic around here gets you a small rice rocket in your trunk. I appreciate your advise and will keep you informed as to what transpires. This is wife's car and I can't put her at risk.
