If you read any of the scientific reports on (true) synthetic oil, all the data show that 15,000 miles is perfectly reasonable, based upon carefully designed chemical tests. In fact, many tests have shown that the lubricating qualities of syn oil improve after a few thousand miles. The shorter change intervals are for dino oil which is a very different 'animal'. To be a bit conservative, I change every 10K miles and the oil is still translucent.
