If the car you're going to buy has 2 little black boxes next to the windshield washer resevoir fill cap (labeled A and B), then you're in luck! A few pushes of buttons in the boxes and reading the blinking red light will give you what an OBD-II reader will give you (and more) without having to buy one. It will also allow you to reset codes and turn off your service reminder light.
