XC tires

i'm sure many have beaten this subject to death, but does anyone know how much diameter tolerence the viscous coupling can tolerate? seems to me the thing has to tolerate quite a bit for the car to be able to goes around corners without scuffing the tires and i for one, don't like the prospect of having to replace all four tires at once if one or more is substantially above the legal limit. consider this, if i have a road hazard warranty and one tire blows after say 10k, would that mean i still have to buy 3 more? seems ridiculous and i'm hoping has some sort of an answer. not to mention how environmentally unsound this can be by having so many half worn tires stacked up.
