Hi Al. I've just posted my problem, then saw this post from you. The mechanic here says it sounds like I need to replace the blower motor. I am not a tool person, not gifted or knowledgeable or brave enough that way. HOWEVER, I am glad to hear from your experience that this is not a difficult, lengthy fix (althought the mechanic said to leave the car for a couple of days???). I'm curious what you paid for your part? Where you got it? I was quoted about $240 from the mechanic here, and would like, of course, to not incur such a big expense, if avoidable. Thanks for any help. (My symptoms sound a lot like yours, but on a 1993 850GLT.)
