help...my stereo V70-XC70 1998

HELP PLEASE! my radio is locked up, didn't have the right code and now i have no noise. i have been unable to reset the stereo after the battery died, and the radio locked, the closest dealer, 500+ miles away, said to put it on the battery charger with the key on for 2-3 hours to reset the computer, but no luck.... any pointers? thanks!!!
