I'm sorry to say, but it's a Dealer only replacement as they are the only ones that have the software download that the new ETM requires...so, to the dealer it is. Now, depending on the dealer, they may want to clean the Throttle Body first, which is futile. Although this may help your car's surging for awhile, the ETM issue is not fixed by any stretch of the imagination and it will only be a short time before you have to have it replaced, regardless. Yes, they will want to charge you for the cleaning (non-warranty item), from what I understand. Your best weapon for fighting them on the cleaning and having them go straight to ETM replacement is "DATA" from this board and others. Collect all of the posts saying the cleaning didn't work and copy them off and take them with you when you go to the dealer, fully expecting a replacement on the first visit. Don't let them appear knowlegeable and try to convince you with their volvo-ese- that cleaning often will "solve" your ETM issue. It is very good to copy off and take to your dealer. Of course, I wouldn't bring the data out unless you have to use it to counter them if they insist on cleaning.
