Yes, similar post over on Swedespeed, and then when someone tried it (used a pro) evidently there was a check by the ECU to the imobilizer and the installed system failed. That was on '99 or above, if I recall correctly. If the system is '98 or earlier, the installation should work. At least this is my take on what's going on. My vote is a block heater on a timer if a cold engine that's hard to start is the concern. www.volvopartsworld.com has them at a reasonably price.
My neighbor however has an automatic starting system that was absolutely free and works on all of the cars she has driven in the last 10 years or so... even her newest '05 MDX...It's called "Hubby." LOL It's a great system and hardly ever fails...He starts her car and lets it warm up several minutes before she has to leave for work. Of course this system takes a willing heart and according to her, "some training."
