When to replace water pump and tensioner? 850

There are many opinions on the issue of replacing the water pump/pulleys/tensioner ranging from "if it ain't broke..." to replace 'em every other belt. Since a seized water pump or bad tensioner will lead to a broken belt and that leads to a very unhappy engine, I fall in the 'replace 'em every other belt' camp. And the indy I patronize (an ex Volvo tech) recommends the every-other replacement concept.

I am coming up on a second belt change so I haven't done the pump and pulleys so will look forward to thoughts on this as others reply.
