Tire Rubbing against Wheel Well--HELP!!! 850 1993

I recently put new tires on my car (245/40/17) and am experiencing slight rubbing of the left rear tire against the top of the wheel well when I hit small bumps. I had four people in my back seat (two on the left side) which is how I noticed the rubbing ( i know, too many). I had the same tire size on the back before and did not have any problems with it. My mechanic said there should be no shock absorber /spring damage since it was dead weight for a short period of time. Any suggestions or thoughts??? The only thing I can think of is an allignment or the new tire might be too much for the wheel well since it is not worn down. Thanks for the feedback!

Mike
