Hi all,
I need to replace the rubber boot at the CV joint at front end of propellor shaft running back to the rear axle. I would normally call this the rear drive shaft, but the Volvo AWD service book says it is the propellor shaft, and refers to drive shafts as the shafts from diff out to the wheels, so I don't want to confuse the semantic gods. Anyway, it looks as if I need to remove the whole shaft in order to really change out the forward CV coupler with a kit that is available. Question is just what is involved if it is going to be done on jack stands and ramps. Looks as if just removing the coupler bolts at front and rear, and dropping the structure that holds the center bearing, then knocking off the front coupler from the splines in prop. shaft. I know to mark the connections to be sure thay go back in same alignment, and also to mark the various bolts because they are sometimes different lengths for purposes of balancing the sahft. What else should I know? How long to do it for first time? Any special issues, hints, tools?
All hints appreciated. this is my wife's car, and I don't want to tie it up for suprises ;-)
