You'll need to remove the receiver/drier with its bracket (still attached to the bracket...just like the compressor) to be able to get to the compressor...and yes, the front wheel off will make things much easier. Instructions say, to "slacken off 2 screws for the bracket for the compressor" and "lift compressor out." I don't know if these are the 2 hidden screws you mention, but I would bet that they are...and you took the wrong screws out (the ones that mount the compressor on the bracket). Either that or, if you've taken the right screws out, but the compressor has stayed bolted in for so long that it is now "meshed" into place. In that case, take a rubber mallet (hope you have some room) and hit the compressor and I'll bet that will jar it loose. Instructions for the next part says to "transfer the bracket with the pipe coupling (flange) to the new compressor." So, you're really suppose to take the compressor out still bolted to the so called "bracket" and then transfer the bracket in its entirety to the new one. Hope this helps.
