'Tar' deposits in intercooler air pipe V70-XC70 2001

Last weekend when I was replacing spark plugs, I noticed some tar like deposits in the soft rubber air hose connecting the intercooler with the rigid plastic air pipe going over the top of the engine. Could this be coming from the turbo, or is there some crankcase ventillation line that feeds oily vapors ino the works from further upstream?
