940 to XC70 V70-XC70

We are considering trading in our 1995 940 that we have owned since new for a new XC70, or maybe a used 2004 or 2005 and I have a few questions.

Have there been any changes in features or options in the 2006 that would make it a better car than a 2004 or 2005?

Have the reliability issues been solved? Our 95 has been a great car, but I remember in the late 90's and early 2000's there were a lot of issues with the AWD system and other electrical problems. Consumer reports does not seem to like any of the newer (last 10 years) Volvo's, which also has me worried.

Should we avoid either the 2004 or 2005 (or 2006 for that matter) because of known issues?
