Hello,
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
My wife's car has been leaking gas real bad whenver we do a fill up. So based on this board there is a recall on such problem. I brought the car this am to the dealer and informed them of the recall and safety issue etc. They obligingly took the car and alas this late in the afternoon the service advisor informed me that there is nothing wrong with the tank and that the leak is caused my the fuel pump charging me $485 parts and labor!! I argued that the fuel pump was replaced 2 mos ago since the car stalled and was having problems starting an indication that the pump is going bad. My indy mechanic said that the pump was bad. True enough i bought an OEM part,my indy mechanic installed the pump and the car was running perfect till it started leaking gas lately last week w/c never happened before.
Is the dealer giving me the run around? they are even charging $55 for the diagnosis. They claim that the heat sheild(recall part) is ok and leak is caused by the fuel pump???? What is the procedure in changing the pump? How do i check if it is really the pump w/c causes the leak. Leak only happens when do a full tank.
Thanks a lot for the inputs.
