Radiator Overflowing V70-XC70 2001

My 2001 V70 XC loses radiator fluid through the overflow tank.
Once in a while when i turn off the motor the overflow tank for the radiator overflows. I changed the thermostat, the temperature gauge never goes over half. The Volvo dealer tells me the radiator is probably blocked and needs to be changed. The car is only five years old. I find it difficult to believe that the radiator is finished.
