emissions failure V70-XC70 1998

my '98 v70m t5m 135k miles ..has failed mass. emissions test.very reputable and capable non dealer volvo shop has quoted a price of over $1600 to fix. it needs both o2 sensors and air pump and clamps and stuff.does anybody know if there is an alternative to this expense.or does one "bight the bullet" and run the car for another 130k (optomistic ,ain't i ??).
