Suspension Noise S80

Hi,
On a 2000 S80, I have a clincking noise out of the driver-side suspension. I posted a similar message back in August and all responses pointed at the sway bar link. Well, I have both of them replaced but the noise is there. The car has only 55k on it. It seems like an internal strut problem. The noise does not suggest that something is about to come apart, but it very annoying to say the least. The mechanic is at a total loss, and left with no option but to take the strut assemply apart to find out. Any surprises I should watching for! Any parts (most likely special order) should I get ahead of time to avoid having the car in the shop for days! Any tips are appreciated.
