I was really ticked off when the switch on my '96 850 failed in the same way about three years ago. I had not used the switch heavily at all. In my case I spent the $$$$ for the whole assembly, which double ticked me off. Failures like that and the cost of replacement Volvo parts were a big part of why my next purchase in 2003 was a Honda.
