114K seems a bit early for this unless it was abused. Who told you it is going out anyway? The dealer? Of course, they want you to replace it and spend your money with them. If I were you, I would at least try fulshing it with new ATF and see if it makes a difference...and get a second opinion from an independent mechanic, even if the person who told you your tranny is dying is one. BTW, many people would be willing to pay $1500 to have a new one put in if the rest of the car checks out. Therefore, don't junk it...at the very least, try to sell it to someone who's up for the repair.
