Learning from my mistakes: reprise 850 1995

Thanks for all the humorous stories - I nearly fell over laughing about the hole in the spare! To update, yes I did complete the tranny flush and oil change successfully (thanks for asking, Klaus). In addition, I have changed the front O2 sensor as indicated by an engine code (front bank slow response) and will change the top engine brace bushing with a poly replacement from FCP Groton this weekend. I also changed out the pollen filter with an activated charcoal filter (also from FCP Groton). The fit of the filter into the holder is less than optimal; slightly oversized so that the tabs do not lock in place. Anyone else have this experience?

I have driven the car 300 miles since the flush episode and have noticed an increase in power and gas mileage (up from 15.3 in town to 16.5, according to the car computer). The car shifts very well and is not smoking one bit, idle is smooth and quite, and acceleration is very responsive and effortless. As far as damage sustained, time will tell. We will be taking the car on another 350-400 mile trip to Santa Cruz for a two night stay and one day of fun on the boardwalk; it is my 10-year old son's birthday, and a good excuse for a test drive/road trip!

Finally,I have two questions:

First, I would like to replace my air filter with a K&N; what is the correct part number and where is the best price?

Second, I have noticed old oil deposits around the turbo exhaust outfeed tube clamp (not very wet, mostly oil that has attracted dust and dirt) and some around the tube that returns the oil to the pan (this is a little bit wet, but no drips on the ground). I had noticed these deposits well before I flushed the transmission and changed the motor oil, so they are unrelated. I have read some about these problems and the solutions on Bay 13 and OzBrick - what am I in for?
