George,

According to my 2002 owners manual, the "auto-dim" mirror was an option. Like your manual, the standard (manual) mirror with the tab at the bottom is pictured. There is no picture of the automatic mirror, just a brief description of how it works. It sounds like you have the optional mirror, and if so, I don't believe there are any switches on it... mine has none. FWIW, I did learn something by looking at the manual... the mirror will not dim if you are in reverse, regardless of how much light it is sensing.
