Baffling fuel leak at fuel pump

RE: my 1993 850 GLT. I had to lower the fuel tank today to replace a breather hose or two on the top of the tank. This involved disconnecting the fuel delivery and return lines. Upon reconnection, (real simple, lift up sleeve on delivery and return slightly and both hoses slide on their vertical metal posts)I have now noticed that gas is pooling at the top of the fuel pump under those two hoses. It is definitely leaking out of either the delivery or return lines. This is happening with the engine off. I wipe up the top of the pump well, two-minutes later, there is a small puddle of gas. The hoses are definitely pushed down all the way on their meatl posts, I'm positive of that. Why are these leaking?
