I think what you are doing is great. I have a 2003 S60 2.4T which is a lease. I was out of town and let some family members use, to make a long story short, they neglected to service it and change the oil or even check the oil which was low, and I didn't pay attention for a few weeks. Then, when I noticed that the oil was low as I was taking an out of town trip, I added a couple quarts of oil to the level on the oil stick. Then car would start up normal, then as it gets warm and after a few minutes, burning oil smoke would come out of the tail pipe all the way during my trip. I was 200 miles away from home, so decided to drive it at night to get it home, I filled it up with oil again, then put about 5/8 of a quart extra to make up for what oil may burn until I get got home. Got home, parked it, and the next day, it sarted normal and as usual, and as I was driving to work before I dropped it off at the mechanic, there was no more smoke coming out. This was last week, and still, there is no burning smoke coming out of the tailpipe, when i took it in for an oil change, they changed the oil and the filter and everything and put oil to the proper oil level, it started smoking again! When I aded another 5/8th of an oil quart or so, it doesnt smoke anymore, but you can smell fumes when you are warning up the car in the garage. My car has 52,000 miles, out of warranty and it is a lease which needs to be returned next month. What do you think this problem is and what do you think I need to do? Throughout this whole process, neither the check engine light nor the oil ever came on. Thank you. Frank
