Black stuff on front wheels S60 2001

George you might try replacing the pads you have (probably OEM ) with Mintex pads. I did on my '03 V70T5 right around the 10K mile mark even thought the original pads still had plenty of life left (I just could not take the black wheels anymore). The Mintex seem to be a lot easier on the rotors (the OEM had already started to wear a ridge on the rotors after only 10K miles!) I currently have 25K on the car (15K on the Mintex pads) and the ridge on the rotors from the original pads has not gotten any worse and best of all I only have to clean the wheels about every 4 weeks or so and even then they are not really that dirty.
