ETM Fixed , How about transmission? S80 1999

Just had my 99 s80's ETM replaced by dealer, because of the
slow accelaration problem. Dealer told me everything is going to
be fine. But on my way home, the transmission service light back on,
and the car is still slow to pick up after the stop sign (especailly on
a slope). Back to dealer, they told me transmission needed to be replaced.
So is it possible not the transmission failure?
My car's condition is like this:
102k miles, 1999
abs light is on
transmission service light is on.
slow pick up(was pointed to ETM, but still there after replacing the etm).
the rpm is about 4000 when driving 80m/hour,
but will quickly lowers to 2000 if I release the gas a little bit,
BUT I DON'T FEEL THE TRANSMISSION RPM CHANGES THAT MUCH, just like the
meter playing a game with me.
I have been drving like this for over a year, over 20k miles,
doesn't like the transmission is gonna fail.

Please tell me if I really need to replace the transmission($3500), or maybe
just someting else is wrong?

Thanks a lot
