Fixing Mode 'W' 850 1993

Typically the "PNP" (park, neutral, position) switch fails that gives you the symptoms you describe. Unfortunately, yours is a '93 which is reason for concern given the high rate of transmission failures on '93s. Start by reading fault codes at you DLC port A1, and be optimistic that it is nothing more then a failed PNP switch.
