2002 V70 Won't start (sometimes) V70-XC70 2002

Hi I have a 2002 V70 2.4T and have a problem. At times the car will not start, the message screen states "start prevented try again". If I play with it, take the key in and out a few times I can get it to start, but it doesn't instill much confidence. Took it to a indy repair shop and they checked the CEM and gave the the code CEM 6C48 and CEM 6C49 transponder communication faulty signal, intermittant fault. They said it might be the CEM module. They also suggested try using the second key, still have the same problem. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Could it be the immobilizer ring? How much does the CEM module cost? Is there a way of ruling out one or the other?
Thanks
