lame turbo?? 850

getting onto the interstate today, my 96 850T gave me a really wierd hesitation as i was accelerating - almost thought she was going to stall out. got up to normal speed finally, but what i thought was a hesitation was actually (i think?) the turbo not fully kicking in. the turbo guage will not go into the white boost section, also there was some black smoke intermittantly as i looked out the RVM (can't say for sure that it was coming from the exhaust, but i assumed it was.) as long as i didn't accel. too hard, it was fine, but very abnormal turbo boost. any thoughts appreciated.

btw- i had just filled up with prem. and checked the oil, which was fine. bad gas maybe??
