resetting codes for OBDII cars - 1996 and later

I've seen several opinions about what it takes to reset codes in later model volvos with OBDII systems. I just want to make sure that disconnecting the battery for cars with the OBDII system WILL NOT reset the codes.

I've left the battery disconnected overnight. The Check Engine light keeps re-appearing after so many miles when I've done that(and the indicated repairs).

If the battery disconnect, in fact, DOES NOT reset the OBDII codes, next stop is Autozone to get the OBDII loaner box and use that.

anyone?

Thanks for your help in advance...........................
