Front Strunts for my 97 855

Hi All,

Well this week I started to hear a creaking noise from my right front suspension. It was reminisant of the noise I heard last year at this time on the left front which turned out to be the ball joints. My indie shop just called me and said the noise is coming from the upper strut mounting.

Understandably to elimiinate the noise I need to replace whatever is on top of the struts and while we are there replace the struts. The struts are original with 109K on the car. The indie (all makes not only Volvo) whom I have known for years and trust, gave me a rough ball park of $1000. I always ask for the worst case. Then I called my Volvo dealer, whom has done 100% of the scheduled maintenance on the car and they gave me a quick verbal of $800. What the heck? Anynone got an idea of what an indie and dealer would charge for front struts?

Also what are some good choices for OEM ride quality shocks?
