Matt,
Check the throttle at the engine by removing the cover and twisting the round thing where the cable wraps around. If that is fairly easy to turn, then check the cable guide where it goes through the firewall - inside of the car. You may have dirt or something at the top of the pedal hinge, it should not be hard to depress.
