I recently purchesed a used 1999 V70 GLX. Except for a couple things, the car checked out fine. It only has 70,000 miles on it.
One of the issues that I asked the dealer to repair was a soft brake pedal. I had noticed that when I used the brake pedal that there was quite a bit of travel and that when I hit the pedal again (right away) that they firmed up. My suspicious mind immediatly assumed master cylinder.
The dealership committed to repair this and the other issues so when I picked the car up, the brakes were good. They said they had bled them, that there had been air trpped in the line from work they had previously done.
Within a week the problem returned.
I brought the car back and they replaced the rear calipers. Again, things were fine for about a week (5-600 miles or so) and then the problem returned. They are now on the 5th itteration of bleeding the brakes and as of yesterday are in contact with Volvo to ask what this might be. They seem certain (why?) that front calipers are not likely to be the problem and that it is not the master cyl. They say they have never changed one of these.
Any thoughts? Thye do seem to be trying to make me happy, but damn, there is no progress.
