Unexplained engine stoppage/light 850

My '97 850's idiot light indicating a burnt bulb keeps coming on, but all lights are operating normally. Occassionally, usually while in idle, the car will die as if you turned the key off. If you move the headlight switch from always on, to parking lights, to off, the idiot light will flicker and the car's electrical items will dim or act up (i.e., the cd player will momentarily shut down). There's a stray spark or ground somewhere? Might it be the headlight switch? It was replaced a few years ago on a recall. Any help or troubleshooting ideas/steps would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
