Bilstein TC strut V70-XC70

I have noticed that there is a gap between the cap (the large round part that covers the top of the strut mount just below the top bolt) and the strut mount of about 1/4". I have everyting tight and there are no noises now that I have replaced a sway bar link. Rides great.

I don't think there was a gap before I replaced the original struts with the TC's. My guess is the cap, which is surrounded with rubber, is to seal the strut mount bearing from moisture and dirt. I did replace the seats with febi/bilsteins but not the mounts. Am I mistaken about this gap? Any thoughts from those who have installed TC's. Is it possible the threads on the piston don't go down far enough on the TC's?

Thanks to all
