Replacing the stereo S40-V40 2000

I'm considering replacing the stereo on my 2000 S40. It skips all the time when you play a CD and the controls (skipping from song to song or station to station) are pretty flakey.

Any suggestions or warnings? It has the base CD player in it. Should I try to get an upgraded unit from Volvo or go with another manufacturer?
