When the FPR failed on my 854, the fuel escaped through the vacuum line toward the throttle body. It wasn't too bad yet, but a lot of blue smoke on start up. The TB needed cleaning, too.
I would suspect that a good high rpm "run" would burn off any carbon deposits on your O2 sensors.
